The Langston Hughes Chorus

Students form 4th and 5th grade who passed a vocal audition in September participate in choir practicing twice a week. They sing traditional one and two part songs and perform in our school and outside of our school.

 In December 2009, they performed a mini-musical "Elfis and the Elves Get All "Shook" Up." In this musical production Elfis, the main character of the musical story decides that he and the other elves are always working hard during the holiday season and never get a chance to see other cultures celebrate. After talking Santa into letting him borrow the sleigh, Elfis takes the elves on a whirlwind tour. They all get opportunity to observe holiday celebrations that include Los Posados, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Christmas gift-wrapping. The message of this musical can be best expressed by quoting one of the closing lines: "Our different celebrations should not set us all apart; let's celebrate the differences and keep love within one heart."
